Interior Design I (HOME 201)

At last! A basic, down-to-earth class that takes the guesswork out of interior decorating. Learn the easy steps to successful decorating and most importantly, the rules that will save you costly mistakes. We will discuss quality buying and wise purchases, the art of picture hanging, how to select floor coverings, fabrics and furniture and coordinating all these elements. With the help of this class, you’ll be able to tackle any room with confidence and create a masterpiece. Bring a sack lunch.

This design workshop will offer a more in-depth study of the following methods of interior design:

  • Space Planning—Planning a room on paper, traffic patterns, space requirements and expanding your living space
  • Furniture Styles—Identifying styles, the popular styles of today, selecting the best styles for you and styles on a budget
  • Lighting—Lighting effects and the best lighting for a given space
  • Picture Frames—Selecting the best frame, the “Ten Commandments” of framing and lighting the picture


Now you can achieve style, good looks, good taste and comfort in every room in your home. Please bring three accessories (such as objects that you would group together on a table) to work with in class. Bring a sack lunch.

Landscape Design & Gardening Skills for the Novice (HOME 205)

This class is designed to help you create a beautiful and functional landscape design for your yard. Design discussion will have you wanting to investigate new ideas and seeing how realistically your landscape dreams work. You will learn practical skills such as placement, balance, and scale. Hardscape, lighting, and irrigation will be discussed as well as how to create “curb appeal.” Organic gardening and low-maintenance landscaping will also be addressed. There will be a hands-on exercise to help you understand how it all comes together. Bring photos of your property, a ruler, pencil, eraser and 11” X 17” graph paper.

Nancy Higgins is the owner of her own landscape design business. She is the winner of the Most Beautiful Design Award at the San Mateo Home & Garden Show and placed second at the Ventura County Fair. Nancy’s goal is “to beautify the world, one yard at a time.”

Feng Shui Fundamentals: Designing for the Good Life! (HOME 206)

Finding balance in your life, feeling good about what you accomplish, and obtaining a sense of peace and tranquility in your environments are qualities often achieved through the use of Feng Shui. This ancient knowledge is actually a common sense approach used to create environments – homes, businesses, workplaces, healthcare & educational facilities - with characteristics we as human beings need to thrive.

In this course, we will focus on easy-to-understand principles to heighten your awareness of your environments and how they impact your life – both negatively and positively. Based in the wisdom of many cultures, this course will give you simple tools to implement immediately to redirect the “flow of energy “ in your life, so you can enjoy the “good life”!

Linda Lenore is a Feng Shui Master, Certified Green Building Professional and Certified Vital Office/Vital Home professional. Her 40-year background in interior design and construction, 25-years with Feng Shui and garden design, and 15-year focus on green/sustainable practices give her great depth of insights into the role our environments play on our lives. We all know that we have too much stuff, but what do we do first? Easy! Start with this program and take it one simple step at a time. If you feel that your life is being controlled by your stuff, then attend this fun-filled, interactive program, where you’ll learn:

  • The difference between organized and neat, and how it will affect you
  • How to change your environment to work for you
  • What the true cost of your stuff really is
  • How to be removed from junk mail lists
  • The three reasons for reading material and how to decide whether to keep it or toss it

Students are encouraged to bring old cell phones, empty printer (laser or inkjet) cartridges, one item from your kitchen and two items from your closet for charitable donation.
